RUN TO WIN (AFCON 2024)

 The 2024 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) Tournament ended with the Elephant of Cotedevoir defeating the Nigeria Super Eagles, and we all witnessed it. That perishable crown was fought for by those boys with everything they had. The Scripture says in 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 “ Don’t you realize that in a race everyone runs, but only one person gets the prize? So run to win! All athletes are disciplined in their training. They do it to win a prize that will fade away, but we do it for an eternal prize. So I run with purpose in every step. I am not just shadowboxing.

I discipline my body like an athlete, training it to do what it should. Otherwise, I fear that after preaching to others I myself might be disqualified”.

Winning the crown that has been prepared for us is our top priority, so we must do everything in our power to win it. As the match was watched worldwide, we are also being watched by the crowd of witnesses. For the scripture says, ‘Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. ’ Hebrews 12:1. We can only achieve this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, who initiated and perfect our faith (Hebrew 12:2). Paul says in Philippians 3:14 “I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us”. We must imitate Jesus who endured the cross, disregarding its shame because of the joy awaiting Him and now seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne (Hebrew 12:2b). 

May the Lord help us.

Then the leaders of the tribe of Levi came to consult with Eleazar the priest, Joshua son of Nun, and the leaders of the other tribes of Israel. They came to them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan and said, “The lord commanded Moses to give us towns to live in and pasturelands for our livestock.” So by the command of the lord the people of Israel gave the Levites the following towns and pasturelands out of their own grants of land. (Joshua 21:1-3)  Despite the Lord's command that lands should be given to the tribe of Levy, they have the responsibility of asking again and reminding the leaders of what God had instructed. God made many promises to us, but we need to ask and remind Him of them. You should realize that God never forgets, asking indicates our trust in Him and His ability to fulfill His promises.  The last verse of the chapter says ‘Not a single one of all the good promises the Lord had given to the family of Israel was left unfulfilled; everything he had spoken came true’

FREE INDEED

 Upon arrival at the site, I noticed a dove tied down by one of my employees. When I requested its release, he stated his intention to sell it. After asking for the price, he informed me, and I asked him to release the bird, which he did, and then I paid for it.  The Scripture says “When we were utterly helpless, Christ came at just the right time and died for us sinners.” Romans 5:6. By paying the price with his precious blood, Jesus Christ made it possible for us to be set free and welcome into God's family. Ephesians 1:5 “God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.”  Our new status as His slaves necessitates us to do His pleasure and avoid taking things for granted. Romans 6:22 say “But now you are free from the power of sin and have become slaves of God. Now you do those things that lead to holiness and result in eternal life”.  We are free from condemnation
