“EVEN IF… I WILL NOT BOW”

A young man lay on his sickbed, nearing the end of his life. With what little strength he had left, he asked his father for a pen and paper. His hand trembled as he wrote—his letters unsteady, like that of a child just learning to write. Yet the message he left behind was powerful: “JESUS IS REAL.” Moments later, he passed away with a smile on his face. His father testified that the entire room was suddenly filled with an indescribable light.

This story brings to mind the three young Hebrew men in Scripture—Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego (Daniel 3:1–30). When commanded to bow before the king’s image, they refused. Their response in Daniel 3:16–18 remains a profound declaration of faith:

“O Nebuchadnezzar, we do not need to defend ourselves before you. If we are thrown into the blazing furnace, the God whom we serve is able to save us. He will rescue us from your power, Your Majesty. But even if He doesn’t, we want to make it clear to you that we will never serve your gods or worship the gold statue you have set up.”

Many of us have gone through—or are currently going through—difficult and stubborn situations that seem to challenge God’s power. But remember: whenever we suffer, God is not distant. “In all their affliction He was afflicted” (Isaiah 63:9). He has also promised never to leave nor forsake us (Hebrews 13:5).

When Stephen was being stoned, he prayed for those killing him. He trusted God completely. Jesus Himself submitted to suffering, not because God lacked the power to deliver Him, but so that the Scriptures might be fulfilled (Matthew 26:52–54).

God has a purpose for everything. He has the power to do all things—even those we consider impossible. And when He does not act in the way we expect, we can trust that He still has a reason, and that He is always good.

“For the Lord is good. His unfailing love continues forever, and His faithfulness continues to each generation.” (Psalm 100:5)

So do not bow to the devil. Do not trade your soul for temporary relief. Do not turn stones into bread at his command. Stand firm in your faith. Trust God, knowing that His Word plans for you are good (Jeremiah 29:11).

Hold on. Believe. God is good—all the time.
